FUN DAY IN THE PARK
TALES OF OLD ERIE WITH MERRIMENT, MUSIC AND MARIONETTES
We know the very talented Dawn Jordan for her historic Erie Canal murals that dot the rural countryside along the Erie Canal corridor. Now Dawn is bringing marionettes to life with her premiere showing of the “String Theater: The Erie Canal Marionette Show.” The day’s program is hosted by Old Mentz Heritage Center and supported by the Town of Montezuma to be performed in Montezuma Heritage Park, at the High Street Trailhead next to the Firehouse. This is the historic site where one of the first-built packet boats for the Erie Canal, the Montezuma was launched on a voyage trip to Syracuse with Dewitt Clinton in 1820, five years even before the canal was completed.
The festivities begin at Noon with Tom Bristol’s Food Truck set up on site and a Bounce House. At 1 PM we will welcome back to Montezuma the Flock of Free Range Children, a popular local group of acoustical folk artists who will entertain before and after Dawn’s performance. At 2 PM we will introduce Dawn who has artistically created the marionettes and will perform with them her written musical story that celebrates and highlights over 200 years of Erie Canal history.
Come join us to enjoy our family fun-filled event planned for the day. For current updates on the event, visit http://old-mentz.org
